What is an Executive VP of Revenue?

The Executive VP of Revenue is a senior-level position within a company that oversees all sales and revenue generation activities. This person usually has the responsibility of increasing the company’s sales. They will have to work with other departments such as finance and marketing to increase sales. 

The Executive VP of Revenue usually reports directly to the CEO/President of the company.

What Skills are Needed?

An Executive VP of Revenue will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of a company, including increasing sales, revenue, and improving business relationships. As well as managing a teams performance and ensuring its success, and Executive VP will also be responsible for many other tasks which include:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the organization’s revenue initiatives
  • Oversee the sales and marketing teams within an organization
  • Manage the growth of the company’s revenue
  • Strategize and execute revenue plans and initiatives for the organization
  • Supervise and manage a team of department heads and professionals within the Sales and Marketing Departments
  • Provide leadership and direction for the organization’s revenue initiatives

What Education Do I Need?

To become an Executive VP of Revenue, you will need to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field. This degree will prepare you with the skills needed to achieve this position such as analytic, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and leadership.

After completing your bachelor’s degree you can then pursue your master’s degree in business administration which will guide you with the skills needed to become an Executive VP of Revenue such as strategic thinking, financial analysis, marketing, and communication. 

You will want to choose a master’s degree that is related to your industry such as:

  • Management Information Systems
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Information Technology
  • Business Administration
  • Accounting
  • Information Systems and Technology
  • Information Systems• Information Technology

After you have completed your master’s degree and have worked for a few years, you can then pursue your doctorate. 

This usually is not required for an Executive VP. However it will provide you with more skills and knowledge to lead a team. It is always good to be enrolled in school if you choose to become an Executive VP as it will give you a competitive edge.

After you have all of your education complete you will want to start accumulating experience. The more experience you have, the better it is for your career.

You can start as an entry-level position and work your way up to an Executive VP of Revenue. Entry-level positions usually require less education and experience than higher positions. Most entry-level positions require a bachelor’s degree and some may require a master’s degree. 

After you work in an entry-level position for a few years, you can then move up to a manager position. Manager positions usually require at least 2-3 years of experience in the industry as well as a master’s degree.
